DIY: Star Wars skirt!!

New Years eve, I headed to a friend's house and we spent most of the night crafting and I attempted to sew my first skirt out of Star Wars fabric I bought from Joann's!

I cut up a circle in the middle so I can get myself into it! My friend has two dogs so it was fun to try and cut the fabric with them running around, trying to help me.

A circle skirt!! I made myself my very first circle skirt. Look at me!!

Sewing the hem on my skirt. I can not sew a straight line to save my life. It must take a lot of practice, huh?

Here I am adding the band!! It's red with white pokadots. I'm almost at the finish line!!

.......

Skirt too big = skirt too big.

We have no idea what went wrong. We measured myself a few times!! Maybe I just didn't gather enough or something so I brought it home to rip the seams out.

But because she has dogs who were so helpful, I need to wash it first before I have it around the house. Mistah J is deathly allergic to dogs, cats, hamsters, rats, bunnies, and other furry guys.

So this was my first attempt at sewing a circle skirt. I'm excited to try and complete this baby and will show you guys!!

I really want to get a hang of this sewing things so I can make stuff!! Do you sew? How long did it take you to grasp it? Any tips for me!!!

  1. It looks like it will be really cute! Too big is better than too small right?
I took sewing my freshman year of high school, but I don't remember too much of it. There's an online ecourse I am going to take once i get my sewing machine back.

  3. That is awesome fabric. I can't wait to see the final results. I should really get off my butt and get my sewing machine fixed. I haven't sewn since high school, but I have a friend who is a fiber artist (read: amazing sewer) who has offered to teach me once I get the damn thing fixed.

  4. Congratulations! You did so well. I am learning to sew at the moment. I just managed to make my first skirt sale on my online store. I'm so proud. I still have no idea what I'm doing and stuff up a lot. :)
