Moving Target: A Princess Leia Adventure - Book Review

Princess Leia returns for an all-new adventure in this thrilling upper middle grade novel. Set between Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back andStar Wars: The Return of the Jedi, the story follows the warrior princess as she leads a ragtag group of rebels on a dangerous mission against the evil Galactic Empire.

Hidden in the story are also hints and clues about the upcoming film Star Wars: The Force Awakens, making this a must-read for fans old and new!

I am a huge fan of Star Wars but I never got into reading any of the books that came after. Once I found out that was a thing I tried but got so overwhelmed with the selection that I was like Noooooope! I also got told that a lot of it was garbage - their words not mine. So with Disney buying Lucas and starting over with canon a lot of books have started to be released and I'm so happy to dive in head first now.

The first book I bought was Cecil Castellucci and Jason Fry Star Wars Moving Target: A Princess Leia Adventure. It is a middle school age book - 240 pages and Amazon says ages 10-14 - but that did not stop me because it is a Princess Leia book!! It took me 2 days to read it even though it was only 240 pages but over all I say get the book!

Her story is set between The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. We also get a chance to read more about familiar characters like Nien Nunb, Mon Mothma, Ackbar, and even our dear friend Luke makes an appearance. We also get introduce to new characters and a few of them head out with Leia and Nien on a mission that involves becoming a decoy because they have found out about a certain 2nd "moon" being built.

The story is told in Leia's point of view and it's really well written. I absolutely pictured Leia in my head saying everything from this book. She deals with a lot of emotions such as guilt, loss, and love. She brings up her feelings in regards to the destruction of Alderaan so to those that were annoyed that she never cried about it, here you go! She also deals with her feelings over Han and how much she wants to find him but she can't because of her duties to the Rebels. That also has her fighting an inner battle when it comes to the whole idea of being a Rebel or Royal.

None of it is done in a way that makes her weak. You understand what she is feeling through out the book and not once is broken or made inadequate. This is the Princess Leia that I love and was so happy to read that in this story.

Also, all her feelings and talks about Han made my shipper heart happy!! And again, it was done so wonderfully.

I love the interaction between Mon Mothma and Leia. I think that entire dialogue was my favorite in the entire book. Getting to know more about Nien Numb is always a plus!

Phil Noto does the cover and insert artwork for the story and like always does an amazing job!

And I would like to say that epilogue has made me have so.many.questions!

Don't let the age range of the book turn you away. If you love Star Wars and Princess Leia get this book! It is a quick but a fun read.

Up next on my Star Wars reading is Sumggler's Run : A Han Solo and Chewbacca Adventure by Greg Rucka!

Unearthed From My Closet: Weapons and a Wedding (Rehearsal!)

My best friend is getting married this Friday (Oh.My.God!) and last Saturday she held the rehearsal and lunch over in Napa, Ca. We got there a bit early, had some drinks, food, clowned around but then it was time to buckle down and figure out how this ceremony was going to go.

Random fact: This is my first time being  part of a wedding party and holy frack we had to do this a few times to get the walking down. Haha.. some of us walk a bit too fast. It was also miserably hot... 95 degrees hot which I normally don't mind but there was no breeze and humid. Baaaah but it gave me an excuse to wear a dress.

Earlier in the week I had gone to Hot Topic to pick up my Rey POP! figure and they were having a sale on clearance - buy one item get one item for a $1.00. I found they had a random Orphan Black dress in my size and I quickly snatched it up. I had found the outfit I was going to wear to the rehearsal!

What? One doesn't wear a dress with a gun print all over it to a pre wedding lunch? I also picked up the cutest floppy hat from them. It's black with laser cut music notes on the brim. Music notes and guns are the thing, didn't you know!

And thank you person who designed this dress and added pockets. They added pockets. Thank you!

I went non existent with accessories because again, IT WAS HOT. My friend did buy me a pair of Star Wars hoops which I threw on while at the bar.

I absolutely love this dress and am so happy I managed to find it randomly and on clearance. Hot topic has been releasing some really cute things and their next release are items from American Horror Story Hotel.

Floppy Hat: Hot Topic
Purse: Betsey Johnson (similar)
Boots: Unknown

Have a great day!

Geek Girl Brunch Bay Area Launch!

Back in August I along with Gwen and Jessica, launched the very first Geek Girl Brunch in the Bay Area! I was both very excited and nervous but it went off without a hitch and everyone had fun! Our first theme was MARVEL and I think we made the right choice.

The brunch was held at Townie Restaurant & Bar which is located in Berkeley, CA. I caught a ride with Gwen and Nina to the restaurant and we were greet already by a few of the girls joining us. Gwen, Jessica, and I then started to place the goodies/swag were giving away!!

I printed out Marvel LEGO coloring pages which were free and from the LEGO site. It was a mix of Spider-man, Guardians of the Galaxy, and The Avengers. Gwen brought The Avengers stickers and gave out nerdy version of Cards against Humanity cards.  for everyone. Jessica created some great candle holder which we used to place crayons for everyone to use. She also gave out Avenger theme pencils, erasers, and confetti!

Nina created really pretty Ant Man pins for everyone in attendance. Be sure to check out her Esty shop - Le Fancy Geek Boutique for some amazing necklaces.

After everyone was seated and drinks were ordered, we went around the table and introduced ourselves. It seems a lot of us love Star Wars, work in video games, and had a moment with Nathan Fillion. We then ordered our food and continued to chat and get to know each other. Through out the brunch we had Marvel trivia and prizes were handed out.

Thanks to Nina for donating a Thor necklace, Gwen had some awesome Marvel key chains, and I brought a Hulk Disney Vinylmation.

After brunch we headed off to Fantastic Comics and a few of us picked some stuff up! I bought a hard cover of Star Wars The Empire Strikes Back release of the original comics.

Everyone had  a blast and it sounded like a group like this was needed. We are having our next meet up in October and I think all things are pointing to a Nightmare before Christmas theme. If you are in the Bay Area and want to join, register over at Geek Girl Brunch and LIKE our facebook page to get updates!

I can't wait!

Thanks to Nina and Gwen for the photos. My phone has decided to have my photos for lunch.

Favorite Things About Autumn

Welcome to another 5 Fandom Friday post!! Today we are writing about  our favorite things about Autumn!

Fall begins on the 23 and I can't wait for it!! San Francisco doesn't really experience seasons but for some reason the last few weeks have been really warm. I'm talking 90 degrees warn and that's deadly for some of us! Haha...

Here's hoping for some rain this season too!

1. Tea

I'm not a ice tea drinker so with the cooler seasons comingthat means I can drink a lot more tea! I love tea. I live for tea. I have so much tea it's crazy. My favorite right now is White Chocolate Peppermint and I can't wait to have it! Caffeine free of course since too much of it makes me sick!

2. Halloween

My favorite holiday of the year is coming! I just adore Halloween so much! The candy, the costumes, the spookiness, the horror movies. I am ready to celebrate!!

3. The return of my TV shows

The awesome thing about fall is that not only are some of my favorite shows returning to TV (still gotta wait until winter for The X-Files) when it's raining, I can wrap myself with my favorite Minion blanket, have some tea, and watch TV all day. My DVR is so not ready for the new season!

I have a problem. A problem that I will keep having! I love planners and even though a normal human doesn't need more than 1, I can't help myself. I also have so.many.post.it.notes that it's ridiculous. Fall means new planner options and more stuff to use! Give me all the stickers, pens, washi tape and post it!

In 3 weeks I will be on a plane (sadly not the R2-D2 or BB-8) to Japan. We will be going to Kyoto, Osaka, Nara, and of course Tokyo. I will get to celebrate Halloween at Tokyo Disneyland / Disney Sea and Universal Studios. I have plans to go to Deer Park in Nara. I have a list of all the restaurants I want to go to. We have been planning since March and it's almost here.

There it is! My favorite things about Autumn this year! Now off to read about your favorite things!!

Have a great Friday and have a wonderful weekend!

Funko Marvel Collector Corps Secret Wars Box

I'm finally getting around to sharing my Collector Corps box! I got it the Thursday I left for PAX and have just been lazy getting it photographed.

Fair warning: a flood of photos ahead!

This month we got 2 POP figures in the box! Also included was a comic, t-shirt, patch, and pin. I was so excited getting two figures. This time we got Thor and Spider-man!!

Check out Miles Morales!!! I was really excited to see him in the box. Now according to Collector Corps, these are exclusive to the box and will not be released in stores. I'm wondering if  Funko will be doing a different version of Miles or is this it. I really hope they make more Miles Morales.

Oh my goodness check out Thor!! Ack, I love it. I saw a prototype photo floating around so I knew she was coming but I didn't realize it would be for the Collector Corps. I think she's my favorite by far. I did like the Hulkbuster but Thor beats him out. She comes with her hammer, her cap, and I love the helmet.

Also included was issue 1 of Secret wars and the cutest POP shirt ever! The patch and pin went somewhere and I don't really photograph them. I'm here for the POPs!! Haha...

Did you get your box already? What did you think of the picks? Also, I can't wait for the next one, VILLAINS!!

Oh and did you guys hear about the Star Wars one? Oh yea, I'm ordering that one too. I actually cancelled Loot Crate for it.

Thanks for reading!

PAX Prime 2015

Jaime and I got the chance to attend PAX Prime this year! This was my second visit and Jaime's first. we both a blast and got to try out so many awesome games.

We didn't really get to attended too many panels just Cards Against Humanity and Giant Robot both which crazy fun as hell. The rest of the 4 days we just spent out time standing line and getting to try games like Guitar Hero Live, Rock Band 4, Street Fighter V, some great PC games like Capsule Force and Color Ninjas, table top games like Exploding Kittens and Bravest Warriors. We also took some crazy pictures to try and win some games. One of them involved a white horse, a feather, and some weapons. (Witcher 3)

I also got to met Felicia Day! She signed her book and I got a photo with her. She's awesome!

We enjoyed Rock Band 4, loved Splatoon and Super Mario Maker which is now making us buying a Wii U officially. We tried out Capsule Force because Mia Moore told us a friend worked out on it and we had a blast. It's a 2D game where the characters battle it out in levels that inspired by Anime and the 80s. OMG, sign me up.

Rock Band 4 and Guitar Hero Live newest format were great. They have less buttons to use which is so much easier for me. The guitar buttons on Rock Band 4 were a bit small for Jaime but he had fun too. Now to figure out which one to get.

Here are some pictures!

I also finally created my very first vlog? con vlog? Anyways, I made my first video with clips from PAX Prime. It's really rough and I had no idea what I was doing. There are some audio issues and some weird cuts but I am so freaking proud!! Right now it's unlisted and I'm working on amping myself up to making it public. I have shared it with a few friends and now I am posting it on my blog!

Let me know what you think! Please leave me some feedback - what you liked or didn't like. I want to make videos and I am really excited with this one. I tried something new guys!! Ah!!

Thanks for reading!! Did anyone else get to attend PAX? What did you get to play?

I'm swimming in nail wraps! Espionage Cosmetics unboxing!

Another month of Espionage Cosmetics and like always, they create some awesome nail wraps. Like every box they include 2 new designs, 2 already released designs, and either a pot of everything shadow or lip venom.

This months new design are Teleporter and Ludicrous Speed. I do love glitter but I felt Teleporter was too plain but some one out there may love it. Boy do I love Ludicrous Speed!! It even glows in the dark and I love Espionage Cosmetics glow in the dark nail wraps. And YES FOR SPACEBALLS REFERENCE.

Here's a close up of the design. I'm not sure what the glow in the dark design is but I can't wait to wear it. I really should start wearing them. I now have a plastic case full of wraps.

The already released designs were Unicorn Blood and Killer.  Yes, I do have multiples of these.

This month we got another pot of everything shadow. It's a glittery yellow called Invincibility. I'm not a fan of yellow so I may end up selling it or trading it away. I know you can mix these pots with lip venom to make different color lipglosses but I don't yellow will look good on me at all.

Another box, another great batch of goodies. I am so loving this sub box from them. I don't think there hasn't been a thing I haven't liked and they comes packaged wonderfully. I haven't had anything break, explode, bend, nothing.

Really, if you are a fan of make up sign up for this sub service once they opened it to the public. I may not resign up once my sub is done just because I have way too may wraps.

What did you think of this months box?

5 Fandom Deaths I’m Still Upset About…SPOILERS!

In the famous words from River Song - "Spoilers, sweetie!" Happy Friday and welcome back to another Five Fandom Friday post! It's a new month and more new themes announced. This weeks theme is 5 Fandom Death I'm Still Upset About. I went with television because it was much easier to come up with. I have a lot of films, books, video games that I could keep going with but isn't that the case with 5 Fandom?

Anyways, on to my list!

1. Billy Shipton and Kathy Nightingale - Doctor Who

Okay, they didn't hit the bucket in a terrible way but their stories hit me hard. For those that don't watch Doctor Who, there are these villains called Weeping Angels. They touch you and send you back in time. You die in the past and they fed upon your energy in the present. In the words of the Doctor "The only psychopaths in the universe to kill you nicely." Kathy was Sally's (the main characters best friend) and she got sent back to the 1920s. She lived a nice life and died peacefully. She had her great grandson deliver a letter to Sally. Oh man, Billy was such a cutie. He was a cop and met Sally. He asked her out and they were oh so cute but then he got touched and sent back to the 60s. Sally was told were to find him in the present. She stayed with him in the hospital until he died of old age.

Tears guys!!! TEARS!!!

2. Moira Queen - ARROW

Second season was a mess but I love, love Moira Queen. She was so evil and I loved it. I am still not over how she died and why she died. They could of done so much more with Moira but nooooo. She was one of the few good characters on that show. I want Moira back!

3. The Mother - How I Met Your Mother

I am upset as a viewer because the finale series was just crap and this whole time to find out it was because Ted wanted to be with Robin which let me tell, that relationship was just toxic.

As a person who watched this series, I am upset about that ending.

4. Ellen and Jo - Supernatural

I love both Ellen and Jo. I'm still not over what happened to them. The few kick butt female characters on this show and they get blown up. Ugh! I actually cried and I don't do that with Supernatural. I actually stopped watching in the sixth season. It got boring.

5. Oswin Oswald - Doctor Who

Let me just say that she was never alive but as a viewer we didn't know. When she finally lets it sink in that broke my heart. Doctor Who makes me cry a lot but her story was just sad and I can't believe it happened. The Doctor was trying to run around and save her and they had such awesome lines together and when it was finally found out she was a Dalek, I cried.

So here is my list. There is a lot more like I said but these were the first 5 that popped into my head. Now to run off and read everyone answers. I hope I don't need a lot of tissue.

Have a great weekend and Happy Force Friday!!
