Moving Target: A Princess Leia Adventure - Book Review

Princess Leia returns for an all-new adventure in this thrilling upper middle grade novel. Set between Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back andStar Wars: The Return of the Jedi, the story follows the warrior princess as she leads a ragtag group of rebels on a dangerous mission against the evil Galactic Empire.

Hidden in the story are also hints and clues about the upcoming film Star Wars: The Force Awakens, making this a must-read for fans old and new!

I am a huge fan of Star Wars but I never got into reading any of the books that came after. Once I found out that was a thing I tried but got so overwhelmed with the selection that I was like Noooooope! I also got told that a lot of it was garbage - their words not mine. So with Disney buying Lucas and starting over with canon a lot of books have started to be released and I'm so happy to dive in head first now.

The first book I bought was Cecil Castellucci and Jason Fry Star Wars Moving Target: A Princess Leia Adventure. It is a middle school age book - 240 pages and Amazon says ages 10-14 - but that did not stop me because it is a Princess Leia book!! It took me 2 days to read it even though it was only 240 pages but over all I say get the book!

Her story is set between The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. We also get a chance to read more about familiar characters like Nien Nunb, Mon Mothma, Ackbar, and even our dear friend Luke makes an appearance. We also get introduce to new characters and a few of them head out with Leia and Nien on a mission that involves becoming a decoy because they have found out about a certain 2nd "moon" being built.

The story is told in Leia's point of view and it's really well written. I absolutely pictured Leia in my head saying everything from this book. She deals with a lot of emotions such as guilt, loss, and love. She brings up her feelings in regards to the destruction of Alderaan so to those that were annoyed that she never cried about it, here you go! She also deals with her feelings over Han and how much she wants to find him but she can't because of her duties to the Rebels. That also has her fighting an inner battle when it comes to the whole idea of being a Rebel or Royal.

None of it is done in a way that makes her weak. You understand what she is feeling through out the book and not once is broken or made inadequate. This is the Princess Leia that I love and was so happy to read that in this story.

Also, all her feelings and talks about Han made my shipper heart happy!! And again, it was done so wonderfully.

I love the interaction between Mon Mothma and Leia. I think that entire dialogue was my favorite in the entire book. Getting to know more about Nien Numb is always a plus!

Phil Noto does the cover and insert artwork for the story and like always does an amazing job!

And I would like to say that epilogue has made me have so.many.questions!

Don't let the age range of the book turn you away. If you love Star Wars and Princess Leia get this book! It is a quick but a fun read.

Up next on my Star Wars reading is Sumggler's Run : A Han Solo and Chewbacca Adventure by Greg Rucka!
