Review: Totoro Backpack!~

Do you know about the Wish App? It's pretty much an online market place where folks list items for sale. You just scroll through and find the item you are looking for and press buy. Most of these items come from China and are priced very cheaply. Also, so many sellers are selling the same things that you have to dig around to find the least expensive listing.

A co worker told me about the app and I also saw someone in one of the craft groups I'm in posting about buying craft supplies. I figured I'd see what it was all about. It's huge! I didn't realize how much  and what is listed on there. I was finding things for my home, clothing, electronics, craft supplies of course, toys, etc. A lot of the items start at a dollar and even shipping starts at a dollar. Though because you paid a dollar for shipping, the items take forever.

Anyways, I bought a few craft supplies and in my searches I came across a Totoro backpack. It was black and simple. I needed a new backpack so I thought why not. I found the seller with the lowest price, checked out the reviews, and placed my ordered.

Almost a month later it arrived. It showed up in time for me to really put it to work and I took it with me to Emerald City Comic Con. I present to you a review of the Totoro backpack!

When it arrived, it was just packaged in a large bubble mailer. It survived the trip though and that's what mattered. The print of Totoro is nice and crisp. There were no missing parts or anything. It's not really printed on, more like painted on, if that makes sense.

There were pieces of string all over the straps of the bag. It all looked finish just not cut off. I took a pair of scissors and cleaned it up. Also, it had a very strong plastic smell. I didn't want to spray it down so I shoved dyer sheets in it to help. I had to leave it alone for a few days. Now that I've been using it and letting it air out, the smell is faint if not gone.

The bag is made of a canvas type material. The straps felt very strong and besides the finished pieces of string hanging off, everything looked good. It has two zipper pockets, a tablet pocket inside the main pocket, and a back pocket. I actually throw in my graphic novels in there so I'm unclipping and zipping my back open every 5 mins when I get to sit and read! The snaps for the flap are plastic so I do have to be careful with it. I have terrible luck with plastic clips. It also came with a strap if I want to carry is as a crossbody bag which was really neat. The straps have Totoro written on it along with an outline of him.

It terms of using it for 5 days straight while at ECCC, only one issue! The small pocket folds into itself and when I zip it close, the fabric catches and I have to sit there and try to pull the material out of the zipper teeth. The straps didn't get loose, the zipper kept on zipping, and nothing felt like it was tearing. I was carrying at most, two sketch books, 3 graphic novels, my wallet, a coin pouch, my phone, and a bottled drink.

Over all two thumbs up for something that I bought online through an app. In terms of using the WISH app, I haven't had issues with it. There were a few craft items that I ordered which never showed and they were quick to refund my money so I could order it again either through the same seller or someone else. If I also did get an item that was questionable, like the double sided foam tape rolls that had a strong chemical smell, they refunded me and asked no questions.

I'm actually tempted to make a full WISH haul video (when I'm not tired as all heck from working) showing off what I've gotten. Since the backpack I've gotten more crafty items, jewelry, and random accessories.

Have you used the WISH app? What are your thoughts on it? I will say with items as low as a dollar, it does get dangerous!

Disclaimer: I bought this item with my own money, used the app on my own, and have come to the conclusion that this may also NOT be an official Totoro item.

Disneyland Trip Star Wars Marathon Weekend

I pretty much made it a fun filled weekend during the Star Wars Marathon. You can read about that adventure here. This has been my first visit since 24 hour day last year and my first time visiting since Season of the Force started. To say I was excited would be a vast understatement.

So much was going on in Tomorrowland. They add a new adventure in Star Tours. The old innovation building got a make over and the bottom floor is now known as Star Wars Launch Bay. There is a store, displays with vehicles, weapons, and costumes from the films, and greet and meets with Chewbacca and at the time, Darth Vader. He got switched out for Kylo Ren.

Tomorrowland Terrace has a Star Wars theme menu. Most of it is pretty good all things considering. At the time we only had the breakfast items, I had Bantha Blue Milk Bread. It was blue french toast and it was freaking amazing! Jaime had the Lars Family Breakfast Platter. It was eggs, potatoes, and bacon.

There's a new Jedi Academy show. The little ones can still train to be Jedi's but they changed it to include the events of Star Wars Rebels. I caught one of the showings while eating my Star Wars meals and I enjoyed it alot. The Seventh Sister is in it and that was really awesome to see.

Of course the one ride I was excited to ride was Hyperspace Mountain. They have taken Space Mountain and renamed and you are pretty much flying in space trying to avoid Imperial Tie Fighters while X-wing pilots try to take them down. It's such a fun and amazing ride. I mean, it still Space Mountain but with Star Wars added to it. It's only around for Season of the Force and I believe it's going on until May.

I know Disneyland is working on Star Wars land but I hope they add something equivalent to Hyperspace Mountain. I'm going to be sad when it goes away.

Jaime and I did ride other attractions like Big Thunder Railroad, Matterhorn Bob Sleds, and Indiana Jones The Temple of the Forbidden Eye but we spent most of our time in Tomorrowland. We only had 2 days in the park. I couldn't go in Saturday and we left Sunday.

We had such a blast and we actually went again for more Season of the Force fun.

Have you visited Disneyland for Season of the Force??? Are you enjoying it??? I want to go back!

Japan Trip 2015: Fushimi Inari Shrine

On our very first official day in Japan we took the train to Kyoto to visit the Fushimi Inari Shrine. A few people have told me about this beautiful place and I made sure we got to visit.

Fushimi Inari Shrine (伏見稲荷大社, Fushimi Inari Taisha) is an important Shinto shrine in southern Kyoto. It is famous for its thousands of vermilion torii gates, which straddle a network of trails behind its main buildings. The trails lead into the wooded forest of the sacred Mount Inari, which stands at 233 meters and belongs to the shrine grounds.Fushimi Inari is the most important of several thousands of shrines dedicated to Inari, the Shinto god of rice. Foxes are thought to be Inari's messengers, resulting in many fox statues across the shrine grounds. Fushimi Inari Shrine has ancient origins, predating the capital's move to Kyoto in 794.
It was so beautiful and amazing. The trails just went on and lead us into a forest and it was nothing I have seen before. Of course, the farther into the trail you went the more spiders you encounter. I had to say "Nooooooope" after the second climb and all I saw were webs on every single tree. There were so many fox statues every where, the shrines were an honor to see, and just being in the spot was so calming and peaceful. I was overwhelmed by it all but I was so happy.

I don't know what more to say about this place except if you get the chance to visit Kyoto, visit the Fushimi Inari Shrine. It's just breath taking. After we made our way back down we found an area with food! I ended up buying Takoyaki and quail! I didn't like the quail but Jaime ate it all.

Enjoy a small selection of photos! We took so man photos! If you want to see more please let me know! I'll be happy to show off some.

These photos were also giving me a hard time in my Project Life album. I did finally complete the spread and I will be sharing it in a future post. I just need more natural light so I have to wait for the weekend.

Have you visited Fushimi Inari Shrine? What were your thoughts?

Project Life: 2016

I'm back with another Project Life spread! I'm still working on my Japan trip slowly but I'm also recording my adventures for 2016. It's a lot to keep track but I'm having fun. I work on it during my free time which is limited right now because of the two jobs and crazy hours I hold.

This is the title page for my 2016 album. The page protect was actually 12 x 12 but since I'm working with 9 x 12, I sliced this one to a little under 9". Both pictures were left over prints from our Disneyland trip. It works because Jaime and I are Disney nerds and this album is abut our adventures which included a lot of Disney!!

The 20 and 16 cards were freebies from Give a Girl a Blog. I made them shiny by running them through the Heidi Swapp Minc Foil machine. The quote on the bottom right which reads "Sometimes I pretend to be normal but it gets boring & I go back to being me." I felt this describes me a lot. The printable card came from Peppermint Creative.

On the back of the layout is a 8ish" x 12" photo of this huge bow and arrow that's along the Embarcadero Water Front. It's once of my favorite things and I had to include in my book. I then proceeded to stamp HEY THERE, and was going to add San Francisco under it but I don't have enough space. I'm debating if I want to stamp out SAN FRAN or searching the internet for smaller letter stamps.

Or I could just print it out again and leave it blank now that I know it won't fit with the size stamps I have.

My plan this year is to do weekly layouts. Some of them have been random photos from through out the week or a specific event that take up the page. I took a page out of Kelly Purkey book and start the week with a solo a photo of me and add a tag with the Sunday date of that week. My weeks are Sunday-Saturday.

For the first week of January I add a photo of myself in front of the huge Star Wars display from my local cinema because I was still in full on TFA mode. I stamped the date using a roller stamp and stapled the tag right onto the photo. I added photos from New Years Day which we spent at a friend's house. All faces blur just because I don't know how they feel about being on my blog! The top left corner photo was a random shot I took that week. I found a NES and R2-D2 spray painted on the sidewalk. The quote on the photo was stamped from a Studio Calico stamp. To finish off the page, I printed out the General Leia Star Wars movie poster and stapled a movie ticket on it. We took Lilli to see it on the 3rd. I keep my movie stubs and I love using them in my scrapbooks.

I have a random card with a gold 1 on it to showcase the date & start of the New Year but the more I keep looking at it, the more I am hating it. I'm probably going to switch it out for something else. I don't know yet.

I'm still getting a feel on how to photograph my Project Life spreads. I did these this time on a white table and pull them out of the page protectors so I wouldn't have the glare like I did the last time I posted some! I'm slowly figuring it out!

I'm planning on sharing my completed layouts of the Fushimi Inari Shrine visit soon. I'm proud of those pages.

What are you currently creating?

Small Goals {APRIL 2016}

SPRING IS HERE!!! Not like it really matters in San Francisco. Right now it's been raining one day, the next day it's hot as all heck, and then end of the week we get fog and low 50s.

And with a new month comes a blog post with a review and new set of goals!!

March Goals:

Discount everything on Poshmark - I discounted things but during the last week of March so hey, half a point to Slytherin!

Finish the layout for Fushimi Inari-taisha in my travel book - It took the entire month but I got it done!! I have plans to share the layouts I created soon as well as the actual photos of the trip.

Clean out the DVR - I don't think I was too specific with this goal but we went from 93% (Hey there We Bare Bears!) to 45%.

Update my blog layout - Nope. I started testing some of the free ones I found but nothing was catching my eye officially.

EYE EXAM - Completed and I have new glasses! Also, my eye sight did not change! Woot!

Woot!! 3.5 out of 5!! I'm considering the DVR one completed lol!!! And now on to my small goals for April!

April Goals:

Pay off one credit card - In case you missed it, I have gotten myself a second job to help me out because of my collecting and travel habits. I have no regrets and this is the life I picked. Even though I have been paying off a bunch all of March, I need to focus on just one for April. I should have some dinner money left over so April, I'm paying just one.

Get my phone looked at/fixed- I have no idea what is going on with my Samsung Galaxy but I need to stop being lazy and take it in to Sprint so they can look at it. I keep getting this stupid flash message about not being able to remove some reference. Also, something is draining my battery quickly and I can't figure it out.

Set up all of my April blog post in advance - This is more of pick a weekend day and work on scheduling blog posts. I didn't blog at all last month but that's because getting up at 3am and ending your work day at 5pm, you just want to sleep. I want to get some stuff written up for this month.

Run once a week - I stopped running AGAIN. So starting small, just running once a week even if it's just on a treadmill at the gym.

Here we go April!! I am ready for you!! Are you ready??

Thanks for reading!

Five Fandom Friday: Favorite Stores To Get Geeky Wears/Wares

Five Fandom Friday is a thing that was started by Megan and Kristin! You can read more about it at their respective blogs but it's pretty much a list of 5 things from a pre-determined topic! Today's theme is favorite stores to buy geeky items!!

It was tough when I was a kid, teenager, young adult when it came to finding geeky items may it be clothing, jewelry, house wares... it was hard but now a lot more companies have stepped up and started making items for me! Here are five of my favorites!

1. JORDANDENE!

A photo posted by Usagi 🎀 (@usagimylene) on

I discovered Jordandene through the Geek Girls Blogger group on Google +. I got the chance to review the amazing Sherlock t-shirt and it has been down hill since - in a good way! There are shirts, sweaters, tank tops, and even tote bags! You can find quotes from Sherlock, Doctor Who, Star Wars, and Agent Carter. The fonts that are chosen for the shirts/tanks are amazing & beautiful. I love a good quote and if you are looking for one to wear, check out their shop. They are also having a very nice sale and I got more tanks!

She held a contest for new designs and I entered "Never tell me the odds" and it got made!! #STARWARSTRASH over here!!

2. Her Universe

A photo posted by Usagi 🎀 (@usagimylene) on

I am in love with everything Her Universe has created. They have Doctor Who, Marvel, and Star Wars. I do have sizing issues when it comes to their made for Hot Topic collection which don't seem to match their normal sizing but I will figure out a way to make it work. I have so many of their Star Wars items; the Han Solo dress, BB-8 jacket, lightsaber skirt and I just finally tracked down the dress with the vintage bed sheet pattern. It's clothing I can wear on a daily basis. Some of it is in your face "HELLO THIS IS MY FANDOM" and some of it so subtle that I can wear it to work!

They teamed up with Kohl's to release work out clothing from Captain America: Civil War and I now have awesome clothes to run in! I will also be wearing it to the Super Heroes Marathon at Disneyland later this year!

3. ThinkGeek

A photo posted by Usagi 🎀 (@usagimylene) on

ThinkGeek has always carried geeky items but they have started creating geeky pandora style charms!! I discovered these charms at Disneyland because they have a collection with Pandora but I wanted more than just Mickey, Minnie, and Elsa. (I'm so sick of Frozen) While googling, I found ThinkGeek had their own collection and I started buying charms. Now they are pretty expensive so I wait for when they have them on sale but I'm loving them. I have Star Wars, Marvel, Controller, some official Disney ones, but I am so excited to be able to build my own geeky bracelet. ThinkGeek has a lot more in terms of jewelry but I go to them for my charms.

4. Espionage Cosmetics

A photo posted by Usagi 🎀 (@usagimylene) on

I'm not a big make up person but I love nail art!! Espionage Cosmetics has helped me fill that void with their geeky nail wraps. I love doing my own nail art but sometimes I need something quick and easy. I discovered them through their first kickstarter for Nailed It and I have been a big fan since. They also offer  everything shadows and lip serums all themed around different fandoms. I actually own their clear lip venom and mix some everything shadow to create my own colored lip gloss!

5. TeeFury

A photo posted by Usagi 🎀 (@usagimylene) on

TeeFury sells shirts designed by fans! Most of them are sold for on day only but some of the popular ones head into the gallery but they cost more. I'm not sure how I found them but I'm glad I did. They use really great shirts both in woman and man cut, printed really well, and before the move they shipped out quick. Each day they have a new design for sale and it's always something for everybody!

So there you have it, my list of favorite places to get some cool geeky stuff! Now I'm off to see everyone's list and discover new places.

Have a great weekend!

Five Fandom Friday: Geeky Tattoos I Want Or Have

It has been a while since I joined in on a Five Fandom Friday! Curious to what it is? Head over to The Nerdy Girlie to read more about it and join in!

Today's topic is all about tattoos, geeky tattoos.

I have 5 tattoos total and three of them are geeky. I have plans for more but like with everything else in life, you need money to get tattoos. I have a tiny fund started for my Star Wars planned one. It's gonna be bigger then all the 5 I have gotten combined so I need to save for it.

So here are my three tattoos and two that I want to get!

1. Bullet Bill

I am a huge fan of Super Mario Bros and I love the bad guys. Boo, Dry Bones, Bullet Bill. I ended up picking Bullet Bill because I can not hold white for the life of me. That sadly cancelled Boo and Dry Bones out since they have a huge amount of white in them. I have him on my right arm and it didn't hurt at all.

I did make the mistake of drinking the night before my touch up and that was just one big mess. Don't do what I did. Don't drink before a tattoo. It's not pretty at all.

2. Space-Time key and Future Silver Crystal

I am a huge Sailor Moon nerd! HUGE!! It was fitting that my next geek tattoo would be something from Sailor Moon. I got the key and crystal from the manga and it's on the top of my left foot with a chain going around my ankle.

Guys, this one hurt like you have no idea. Getting tattoo on your foot is paaaaaaain. BUT don't let me stop you from getting one. If you got plans for a foot tattoo go for it.

3. Musical Notes

I have musical notes behind my right ear. I love music and I was itching for a new tattoo so I got notes done. You can't see them unless I have my hair up and you are right behind me. Sometimes I want tattoos that not everyone can see.

And because they are behind my ear, it's awkward to photograph so no picture!

There are two tattoos that I have planned next!

4. DL-44 heavy blaster pistol

I am a huge Han Solo fan and I wanted to be him when I was little. Well, a mix of him and Leia... Princess Smuggler! I have an idea of where I want it and what I want. I just need to find an artist I click with.

5. Cartoon Sleeve

The other tattoo I want is a cartoon arm sleeve. I'm taking this old school though. I want to add my favorite characters from the cartoon's I watched in the 80s. Lady Lovelylocks, Care Bears, My Little Pony, She-ra, maybe a GO-BOT! I have really skinny arms so there is a lack of space. I need to narrow down the characters I want to use.

So there you have it! My geeky tattoos. I'm also thinking about getting a tattoo while I'm in San Diego during SDCC but Emerald City Comic Con always end up having a tattoo booth in the dealer's room and I have always been tempted to get one while at the con. I just don't know why I never get around to getting one.

Time for me to run around and see everyone else's tattoos! Have a good one!
