Unearthed from my Closet: In the Name of the Moon

Sailor Moon has always been a part of my life. It was my gateway to Anime and it was my "being part of a fandom" before knowing fandom communities were a thing. I use to spend my days after school at the computer lab reading through everything and anything that could be found about Sailor Moon.

At that time it was tough because everything was in Japanese and not much English information was out there. I would navigate Japanese sites and print things out try to make heads or tails of it all. This is how I found out it was originally a series that was 5 seasons long with 3 movies and a bunch of shorts. I had photos, trading cards, stickers, and slowly discovered what fan fic was.

Sailor Moon also opened up the world of Anime to me and I started discovering fan subbers. I would send off blank VHS and they would send me episodes of whatever series they were fan subbing.

(Did I date myself?)

It took me years to collect all 5 seasons and three movies. The first two season were hard to find because even though they were heavily edited, no fan subber would touch them because they were available officially licensed. I found them all and even though they finally released them on DVD (not Sailor Moon Stars) I still have my VHS.

Sailor Moon is what started it all.

While Lilli was in town we took to a small Anime festival that was happening in Japantown and as she was showing off her love for Haikyu, I had to show my love of Sailor Moon.

Getting anything Sailor Moon even to this day is hard and expensive . While I was Japan, I got lucky when GU (sister store to Uniqlo) released a collection of Sailor Moon clothing. I had to visit three - four different stores until I found something. The Luna purse was one of them.

The jacket I found on Wish. It's probably not official (can't find any info) but I had to have it.

I fall in and out of love with different fandoms. It happens but Sailor Moon will always be a part of my life.
